🌱 A Pond Makeover, a New Wellness Salon, & Weekend Fun

🌿 Willowood Pond in Elkridge Scheduled for Major Restoration in August
A long-planned restoration of Willowood Pond, located behind 6347–6333 Arbor Way in Elkridge, is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and continue through May 2026. The project, led by Howard County’s Department of Public Works, is designed to improve stormwater management, stabilize the pond’s infrastructure, and enhance surrounding habitat.
The key upgrade involves replacing the pond’s aging metal riser and outfall pipe with a new concrete principal spillway—a move that will improve the pond’s ability to safely manage heavy rain and reduce erosion. Portions of the pond will also be regraded to support better water flow and maintenance access.
Two public outreach meetings were held—first in August 2024, and again in February 2025—to review the plans with nearby residents. The project is funded by the county’s Watershed Protection and Restoration Fee.
The restoration also includes thoughtful native plantings selected to strengthen the pond’s ecosystem and reduce the need for mowing. Among the confirmed species are:
Pickerelweed, which adds color while helping absorb excess nutrients from runoff
Soft rush, known for its role in stabilizing wet soils
Switchgrass, a tall, deep-rooted species ideal for erosion control
These plants will replace turf areas around the pond’s edge and are expected to support wildlife while filtering stormwater naturally.
While construction will limit access to the pond itself, perimeter trails will remain open. County staff will install fencing around the active work zone to protect residents and equipment.

Reign Wellness & Beauty Opens in Catonsville ✨
A new wellness salon has opened its doors in the heart of Catonsville. Reign Wellness & Beauty, located at 38 Bloomsbury Avenue, held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 20, 2025, hosted by the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce.
The salon offers a range of beauty and wellness services, including facials, lashes and brows, red light therapy, and colon hydrotherapy. Its service menu blends traditional beauty treatments with holistic wellness options, aiming to provide clients with a calming, supportive space.
The studio is open Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours on weekdays. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged.
