Maryland Park Service Launches ‘25 in 2025’ Adventure Challenge

Ready for a new way to explore Patapsco Valley State Park and Maryland’s incredible public lands? The Maryland Park Service just launched the “25 in 2025” Adventure Challenge, inviting everyone to complete 25 themed park challenges before November 15, 2025-for a chance to win prizes like an annual park pass or camping experiences.

The challenge is open to all ages and experience levels. You don’t have to register to participate, but if you want to enter the prize drawing, you’ll need to sign up and make a $25 donation to the Maryland Park Service. Park entry fees still apply for everyone.

Just bring your camera: each challenge is completed by snapping a photo-think of it as a year-long park scavenger hunt!

There are more than 30 challenges to choose from, and you can complete them at any Maryland state park. Some highlights include:

  • History quests: Find and photograph a historic mill or Civilian Conservation Corps site (like Avalon in Patapsco).

  • Nature hunts: Seek out one of Maryland’s iconic waterfalls or visit a park with a tree in its name.

  • Activity-based fun: Try disc golf at Patapsco’s McKeldin Area, walk a loop trail, or go fishing on a “Free Fishing Day” (no license needed June 7, 14, or July 4).

You can tackle all 25 challenges in a single park or spread your adventures across the state. Plan your trip during spring or fall for fewer crowds.

For full challenge details and a printable checklist, visit the 25 in 2025 webpage.

Whether you’re a hiker, history buff, or outdoor lover looking for adventure, this challenge is a great excuse to discover hidden gems in our parks and connect with Maryland’s natural and cultural heritage.
